Craving a Bloody Mary but doing a dry challenge? Make this Virgin Bloody Mary, also known as the Virgin Mary, and you won’t miss the vodka!
Virgin Bloody Mary
The Bloody Mary is one of the most popular brunch cocktails. This mocktail version is loaded with flavor – spicy, savory, and salty. It’s perfect if you want a cocktail without alcohol. Of course, if you want to add some vodka, go for it! For more drink recipes without alcohol, try my Nojito (a mojito without the rum) or this Zero Proof Paloma. And for an appetizer, these Bloody Mary Deviled Eggs are a must!
I’m starting a dry challenge this month, I did one in November. Why? A few reasons:
- I don’t want the empty calories
- Better sleep
- No hangover the next day
- More energy to exercise
That being said, I will be sharing more mocktail recipes here. If you have requests please let me know in the comments!
Are they healthy?
This mocktail is actually highly nutritious! Tomato juice contains a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, and it’s rich in lycopene, a powerful antioxidant with impressive health benefits.
When choosing a tomato juice, make sure to read the labels. Certain types of tomato juice can be high in sodium and may contain added sugars. Look for a tomato juice that is low in sodium with no added fruit or sugar.
Ingredients in a Virgin Bloody Mary:
The ingredients in a virgin Bloody Mary are the same as a regular Bloody Mary minus the vodka.
- Tomato juice
- Lemon juice
- Pickle juice or olive juice
- Worcestershire sauce
- Horseradish
- Hot sauce
- Celery seed
- Cayenne
To make this simple Bloody Mary recipe, combine all the ingredients in a big pitcher. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to four days.
Garnish Ideas:
Part of the fun of a Bloody Mary is all the garnishes. Some can be pretty over the top – practically a whole meal on top of the drink. Here are some ideas for how to garnish your Bloody Mary:
- Celery stalks
- Dill pickle spears, okra, or cornichons
- Pickled green beans or asparagus
- Green olives
- Lemon or lime wedges
- Bacon
- Boiled shrimp
You can also rim your glass with celery salt. Rub a slice of lemon along the rim of the glass, and then roll the rim on a plate covered with celery salt until coated.
